Lets Apply

Once you’ve confirmed eligibility, the next step is submitting your application to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). This ensures the state verifies your qualifications before you sit for the exams.

1. Choose Your License Type
Select from Certified Residential, Building, General, or Roofing Contractor. Certified licenses allow you to work statewide.

2. Access the Application
Visit www.myfloridalicense.com and navigate to:
Apply For a License > Certified Contractor > Initial Application Package.
You can apply online or by mail, but online is faster and recommended.

3. Complete the Application
You’ll be asked to submit:

  • Personal details (name, contact, SSN)

  • Documented work experience and/or education

  • Signed experience affidavits from licensed contractors

  • Credit report with FICO score and public records check

  • Financial documents or a license bond if required

  • Disclosure of any criminal or civil history

  • Proof of insurance (can be submitted after exams)

  • Application fee (usually between $249–$354)

4. Submit Fingerprints
Schedule fingerprinting through a DBPR-approved Livescan provider. This is required for your background check.

5. DBPR Review and Approval
Your application will be reviewed for completeness and accuracy. If additional information is needed, DBPR will notify you. Once approved, you'll receive authorization to schedule your exams through Pearson VUE.

Processing Time:
Typically 30 to 45 days, depending on volume and whether additional information is requested.

Next Step:
Once approved, you’ll move on to the exam phase — which is covered in the next lesson.
